I enlisted in the Air Force during the last year of the Vietnam War. Although I never saw combat, I served with many who did. I can't imagine the fear and loneliness they must have felt.
I wrote this cinquain to honor all the brave men and women who have served our country.
A big thank you to Matt for hosting our roundup today at Radio, Rhythm & Rhyme.
Nice work mom! Thanks for your service and being a great mom & hero to many!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tim. YOU are my hero! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service, Linda - and for this poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Matt.
DeleteI hope you'll write poems about your experiences in the Air Force, Linda — as well as the situations and thoughts/feelings that led to enlisting. You'll have a YA novel in verse there!
ReplyDeleteJanet, I'm not sure why I haven't written more about those experiences. I should do that. The AF changed my life. Thanks for the suggestion!
DeleteThank you for your service, Linda. I have many in my family who have served & I am proud of them, grateful for them. Your poem is one for vets to smile over!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. So many vets are in need of help. I hope this little poem lifts them up!
DeleteThank you for your service. I'm with Janet -- your perspective as a woman and from the Vietnam War era would be important additions to our understanding of war, peace, and those who serve our country!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your suggestion, Mary Lee. It was an important time in my life, and I should find a way to write more about it.
DeleteWhat a great poem and photo, Linda. Thank you for your service. As Janet said, I hope you will write about it too. It would be great to hear your perspective.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise. Janet did a wonderful job making the jpeg!
DeleteLinda, you have an amazing story from the Vietnam era. Thank you for enlisting when many were afraid to. Do you have an image poem for my online gallery, Bedecked In Autumn? If so, send I this week. I am sharing the PF poets’ poems when I host next week.
ReplyDeleteCarol, thank you. I'll look in my files to see if I have anything. I'm looking forward to reading the poems in your gallery next week!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service, Linda. Have you written other poems about your experience?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jone. I have written a few more poems about being in the AF, but they are more for grown-ups. : )
