WRITE! WRITE! WRITE!

I love READ! READ! READ! by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater so I have been looking forward to her new collection, WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! illustrated by Ryan O'Rourke.  Her inspiring poems cover all aspects of the writing process from discovering "Ideas (like Peaches)" to the "Final Edit" and beyond.   Amy's poems connect heart to heart with writers of all ages to show that no matter who we are or where we're from, our voices must be heard. The illustrations are expressive and totally gorgeous! This book would make a lovely gift for all the teachers and writers in your life!

A special thank you to Amy for giving me permission to share one of my favorites from the collection.

Writing is for Everyone

Writing is for everyone.
I know this to be true
for you cannot be me
and I cannot be you.

You do not think
the things I think.
I do not choose
the words you choose.
We laugh at different jokes.
We hold opposing views.

One of us writes articles.
One of us writes plays.
Writing is a fingerprint.
It helps us touch our days.

A variety of voices
creates the sweetest chorus.
Our words on paper say
We're here.
We write.
You can't ignore us.

TP Emergency

There was a video clip on the news last night showing people loading their carts and tussling over packages of toilet paper.  One woman with a cart that looked like the one in this picture chased another woman through the store after she took one of the packages.

A clinical psychologist explained that buying tons of toilet paper helps people feel a sense of control and being prepared.  Hmmm.   I jotted a quick poem to share today. I hope it makes you smile.

TP Emergency

Don’t walk.
Run!

The TP emergency
has begun.

Buy a roll.
Buy a case.
Buy every package
in the place!

Cotton soft
or bamboo,
in a pinch—
either will do

One -ply, two-ply
three-ply, four.

Double up
if you need more!

The emergency
has begun!

Grab your TP!

Run!
