It's finally beginning to look like spring around here! Today, as I walked around our neighborhood, I noticed tiny buds dotting the trees. They looked so happy reaching for the sun. I wrote this haiku a while ago, but it seemed right to share it today.
A big thank you to Karen for hosting today's Poetry Friday. Be sure to stop by her place and check out all the wonderful offerings for this first week of National Poetry Month!
I'm still waiting for my red buds, but your's are beautiful as is your haiku.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim!
DeleteLove that 'drinking in the day'. I have a few flowers at last, & the trees have begun to look fuzzy. But, today was so lovely and warm and a few more days like that I imagine buds will be busting open! Thanks, Linda
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I love watching the buds unfold. Today was so cold and rainy, it may be a while longer here.
DeleteDrinking in the day is such an expressive and visual line, Linda. While the weather on Long Island flip flops from a winter chill to spring delight, my bulbs have not popped yet but they are poking out of the ground. Spring is such a time of awakening.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Carol. I love the feeling of rebirth this time of year.
DeleteWe've got little buds too. Perfect poem for this week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jama!
DeleteOur ornamental cherry blossoms are in full display now, but your poem perfectly describes how it was two weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteI bet the blossoms are gorgeous. I love cherry trees! Thanks, Cheriee!
DeleteThere's nothing as lovely as flowering trees. Enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Ruth!
DeleteSpring is such a happy time... so much to notice as life opens up after the cold winter. Nice haiku!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alice!
DeleteLove this haiku. So glad spring is arriving.
ReplyDeleteI keep watching a very small peach tree I planted late last summer for tiny buds, hope they'll appear soon and drink "in the day!"
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your "tiny buds." Ours are still sleeping!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem! Not much spring here in Massachusetts yet.
ReplyDeleteYour haiku is perfect, Linda. It's funny how these new buds creep up on us. One minute the branches appear bear and then after just a day or two of warm temps and lots of sun, they miraculously appear out of nowhere. Happy spring! -- Christie
ReplyDeleteI think we are all lifting our faces toward the sun! Your picture is perfect for this poem.
ReplyDeleteNice one! I too was struck by how one day the treetops in our small neighborhood wood were winter-dead and the next day there was the faint smear of green--it became my first "all of the above" poem. http://myjuicylittleuniverse.blogspot.com/2019/04/all-of-above-1.html
ReplyDeleteLove how active this is!
ReplyDeleteHappy spring! This poem is so lively and fun.
ReplyDeleteLovely, Linda--drinking is the perfect verb for this!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Happy spring, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThings are starting to bud here, too, and I couldn't be happier! Thanks for sharing your spring haiku!
