During my teaching years, I worked with many teaching assistants. They were important partners in my classroom. They are dedicated and work hard to help students learn. They don't get enough credit for their contributions. I wrote this poem as a tribute to them.

Note: I've been working to update my blog. I'm grateful for the how-to videos on YouTube!  There's still a lot I need to figure out including how to get my links to work. Technology is challenging for me, but I'm getting there.

A big thank you to Margaret for hosting this week's Poetry Friday on her blog Reflections on the Teche.

Have a great week!

    1. Thank you, Rose. The blog is definitely a work-in-progress and a slow one at that. : )

  2. I love this two voice poem dedicated to teaching assistants. I had someone in mind as I read this. She is now able to teach in her own classroom having finished her degree in her late 50’s, but she was one of the best assistants ever. She definitely cared deeply and it showed.

  3. Thank you for sharing that. I'm so happy to hear she didn't let age stop her from achieving her dream.

  4. Linda, I enjoyed your poem for two voices. Particularly liked the crossover of the respective internal thoughts of the respective voices. A well crafted and presented piece.

  5. Where would we be without teaching assistants?! I agree. They are the bedrock of many a classroom success. I love how your poem ends with togetherness. Sweet and true, true, true!

  6. When I moved down to PreK after years in K (shared paraeducator always being pulled for one thing or another) and 2nd (no paraeducator) I realized the insanity of ever asking one single human to do the work of teaching an early years class alone. And a few minutes ago I read about Rose Cappelli's first grade teacher, Sister Damien, teaching FIFTY kids on her own! Your poem honors the essential partner.

    1. I can't imagine teaching fifty students. Trying to do that alone sounds impossible. I wish her the best!

  12. Linda, I agree that teacher assistants are marvelous. As a reading specialist of grades 2-4 afforded me the privilege of having a TA who loved the children as mch as I did. Your poem is a delight.
